Came to Colorado in 1879 to enjoy the true west. Took every opportunity to turn a recreation event into a knowledgeable project. As a boy of 12 he took up telegraphy.

Worked on Pikes Peak Cog Railway to pay way thru college. Was telegrapher on the summit. It was through his telegraph work that he came to Colo. Author of the book "Labor History of Cripple Creek." Many times walked from Pikes Peak to Cripple Creek to appraise labor conditions in the booming gold camp.

On April 17, 1956 gave $275,000.00 to Colorado College, passed away 1 month later. Cremated and ashes returned to Colorado Springs with wife who died in 1944.
